Randall Scott "Randy” Sampson

Randall Scott "Randy" Sampson was born December 10, 1959, in Philip South Dakota, the youngest of three children born to Vern and Isabelle (Munger) Sampson. He grew up on the ranch south of Midland and attended Stamford Country School. He went to high school in Midland and graduated in May of 1978.
Randy loved sports and throughout his high school years he played football, basketball, and went out for track. His favorite sport was tumbling, He would practice for hours, and he became a part of the Midland Tumblers. They performed at several basketball games receiving standing ovations. His Senior year he was awarded "Most outstanding Tumbler" award.
Randy has always loved cars and motorcycles. After graduation he attended mechanical engineering school in Springfield. After a 2- year course he came back to Midland and worked for Ken's Repair. Then he set up a shop on the ranch and owned and operated Sampson's Auto Body, he would work for hours fixing up old cars and repainting them. He took pride in his work and made sure everything was done to perfection. He loved to ride motorcycles and attended a lot of the Sturgis Rallies and even made a trip to Reno with his friend, Dave.
He met Tammy Hehn while attending school in Springfield and they were united in marriage March 3, 1979, at the Lutheran Church in Midland. To this union they were blessed with two children Jennifer and Jason.
In 1989, Randy was diagnosed with MS. As the years went by and his disease progressed even to the point where he was confined to a wheelchair it never broke his spirit. He never really saw himself as being disabled, he figured out how to do things that normal people wouldn't think of doing. He was determined to do things himself and found many ways to compensate.
He met his "soul mate" Jackie and they were united in marriage December 30*, 1999 at the Lutheran Church in Midland. They made their home in Philip all their married life. They always offered each other comfort and support through the good and bad times. She took care of him and saw to all his needs daily. They enjoyed watching movies together and listening to his favorite songs. His favorite TV show was McGuiver.
Randy was a devoted husband and father and always put his family first and would do anything for them.
He treated his friends like his family opening his home to those who needed a place to stay. He took pride and joy in his grandkids Danessa and Aiden.
Grateful for having shared his life is his wife, Jackie of Philip; son Jason Sampson of Philip; daughter Jennifer (Eric) Heltzel of Philip; grandchildren Danessa and Aiden Heltzel of Philip; Mother, Isabelle Sampson of Midland; sister Sherrie (Dean) Block of Midland and a host of other relative and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Vern Sampson and brother, Steven Sampson
