Glenn Richard Reynick
Glenn Richard Reynick, a resident of Columbia, MO, passed away on Thursday, July 3, 2025, at Landmark Hospital.
Glenn was born on June 29, 1936, in Philip, SD, where he was the third of four children of Charles H. and Elma (Pederson) Reynick. Glenn was raised on his family ranch 17 miles northwest of Philip, SD.
Glenn graduated from Philip High School in 1954. After attending Black Hills Teachers College for one year, Glenn began his career teaching for two years in a rural one-room school. He received a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of South Dakota in 1962. Glenn served a six-year term with the South Dakota Army National Guard.
Glenn met Mary Lynne Patrick from Wheatland, WY while teaching sixth grade in Cheyenne, WY and they were married on August 16, 1964. In the beginning years of their marriage, Glenn received a master’s degree in Elementary Administration from the University of Northern Colorado in 1969 while working for the State Department of Education. They were blessed with two daughters, Ginger and Janna. Glenn’s career progressed as an elementary principal first in Myrtle Creek, OR in 1971, then in Torrington, WY in 1973.
After retiring in 1994 as principal of Trail Elementary School in Torrington, Glenn served six years on the Board of Directors for the Rocky Mt. Lions Eye Bank in Denver, CO. The service earned him the Melvin Jones Fellowship Award, the highest form of recognition given by the Lions Foundation. Glenn and Lynne shared ten wonderful years of retirement full of cherished memories, including a 40th wedding anniversary cruise to Alaska, enjoying athletic events at the University of Wyoming, & a trip to Ireland. In 2005, Glenn lost his beloved wife, Lynne.
Glenn moved to Columbia in 2012 to be closer to his family, especially his grandchildren, whom he loved so much. Glenn quickly built strong connections of his own in the community. He was a member of the Rockbridge Lions Club & served at their Welcome Home events. Additionally, he worked as a ministry volunteer at the Boone County Jail and led bible study groups at Colony Pointe Senior Living. He cherished a close group of friends that met for coffee & breakfast regularly at Hyvee, where many stories were shared. Glenn was a grateful recovering alcoholic, who was active in continuous service to others in their recovery for the last 13 years. He was proud to be included in the Honor Flight of Central Missouri in April 2016.
Glenn was preceded in death by his wife, Lynne Reynick; parents; his brother Gene and two sisters, Ruth and Marilyn.
In addition to many wonderful friends, Glenn is survived by his two daughters, Ginger Soumokil (and husband Scott), and Janna Reynick, both of Columbia; five grandchildren, Marissa, Reagan, Natalie, Amelia, and Andrew Soumokil; three nieces and two nephews.
Glenn’s life will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 11, 2025, at Trinity Community Church, 201 S. Fairview Rd., Columbia, MO 65203, with a memorial visitation being held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. There will be a graveside service in Valley View Cemetery in Torrington, WY, which will be held at a later date.
