Alice Roghair Jakeway

 Alice Mae Roghair was born to Jacob and Grace Weaver Roghair at Chamberlain, S.D. on November 8, 1943, the fifth in a family of seven children.

Alice was baptized as an infant at the Okaton Reformed Church in America. She had the privilege of attending church and Sunday School and Vacation Bible School during her youth.

She was educated in rural schools in west Jones County, then attended and graduated from Murdo High School in 1961 before going on to further her education. She earned her Bachelor degree in nursing in Mitchell, South Dakota and went on to practice in several hospitals and nursing homes including many years in Rock Springs, Wyoming.

She married Bill Wood of Nebraska in March 1966. To this union was born a son, Milton. Later, the couple divorced and Alice moved back to South Dakota with her small son.

She married Ronny Jakeway in Kadoka on June 29, 1972. Ronny completed the family by adopting Milton. Not long after that, they moved to Rock Springs, Wyo., where they spent many happy years until her death on Wednesday, June 21, 2023, at the age of 79 years.

Alice enjoyed reading and needlework, completing many beautiful gifts for family and friends. A favorite needlework piece completed by Alice featured the following thought, “Quiet down cobwebs, dust go to sleep. I’m rocking my baby and babies don’t keep.”

She loved caring for and helping patients of all ages, never losing her natural skills of nursing. She and Ronny enjoyed traveling, including several trips to Alaska to visit their son and family.

Survivors include her husband, Ronny Jakeway of Rock Springs, Wyo.; son Milton Jakeway and his wife Kim of Anchorage, Alaska; granddaughter Ashley Jakeway; three brothers, Lawrence and his wife Evelyn of Murdo, S.D., Richard and his wife Violet of Custer, S.D., and Jerry and his wife Connie of Okaton, S.D.; two sisters, Lorraine Stoel and her husband Arnold of Brandon, S.D., and Lois Ferris of Valentine, Neb., and a sister-in-law, Clarice Roghair Grotzke of Okaton; more than twenty cousins and twenty-three nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her oldest brother, Melvin Roghair.

Per her request, no services were conducted. Cremation took place.

Arrangements were under the direction of Vase Funeral Home, Rock Springs, Wyo.
