Verna Mae Thomas, age 92 of Spearfish, South Dakota passed away on December 20, 2024. She was born in Lupker, Mt. on August 14, 1932. She attended grade school and high school in Montana until her sophomore year. She graduated from high school in Faith, South Dakota in 1950.
Verna Mae loved her years in Faith, and enjoyed all of the wonderful people that lived there. She was united in marriage to Gerald Thomas in 1952. They had 2 children; Twylia and Barry. Verna Mae and Sonny owned and operated “Sonny’s West Side Service” Mobile station for 221/2 years. Verna Mae also worked at several local businesses. In 1979, Verna Mae and Sonny moved to Columbus, Mt. where they owned a Creamery and Arts/Crafts store for 13 years. In 1992 Verna Mae and Sonny moved to Hulett, WY and later to Spearsh, SD in 1998.
Verna Mae loved attending the Saturday night services at the United Methodist Church in Spearsh. Throughout her lifetime she enjoyed many hobbies such as; snowmobiling, bowling, dancing, playing cards and just being with her family and many special friends.
Verna Mae is survived by her daughter; Twylia Waugh, Hulett, WY, her son; Barry Thomas (Jean) of Sheridan, WY, her grandchildren; Jeremiah Waugh (Keagin), Sunny Ann MacFadden (James), Megan Barrera (Bryan) and Tyler Thomas (Brittney) Great grandchildren; Harlow, Jay, Tommie Mae, Ledger, Malonne, Bella, Elle, Nora and numerous nieces and nephews.
Verna Mae was proceeded in death by her parents, her husband; Sonny, 2 sisters; Bunny Stocklin and Lois Tidball, brother; Don Reynolds, brother in laws; Keith Tidball and Francis Stocklin, son in law; Tom Waugh and her dear friend Einar Olsen.
Family services will be held at a later date.
