Charles “Charlie” Leroy Jones Sr., 81, of Belle Fourche died Tuesday, November 26, 2024 at Rolling Hills Healthcare with family by his side.
He was born on February 26, 1943, in Faith to Glenn and Evelyn (Dippert) Jones. As a young boy, he lived on the ranch west of Usta and attended Perkins County Public Schools and graduated from the eighth grade in 1957. He graduated from Faith High School in 1961.
In 1964, Charles married Judith Unterseher and to this union four children were born; Tammie Rae, Deborah, Cheryl, and Charles, Jr. They were later divorced, but remained friends and would gather with their children at events and holidays.
Charles attended church while living in Faith and Emmanuel Baptist in Belle Fourche with his family. While living in the Long-Term Care, he attended the church service each Sunday with Pastor Paul, Judy and Ree in whom all three held a special place in his heart. He professed Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior in December of 2012 while attending Emmanuel Baptist Church.
He had a joy for life that could be heard through his laughter and seen through his smile. He never met a stranger and would lend a helping hand to those in need. He could remember names and even at Long Term Care, it was important for him to know as many residents and staff as he could and introduce them to his children by name. Family was important and he was called Dad by others that looked up to him, whether blood or not. He mentored and taught many people life skills. He was a “jack of all trades”, including mechanic, handyman, aide at Ft. Meade, railroad, missile sites, gas station owner and attendant, Homestake Mine, construction, bartering, farm and ranch. He enjoyed sharing with his family and friends cooking, camping, fishing, hunting, music, dancing, shooting pool, playing cards, motorcycling, snowmobiling and spending quality time.
Charles is survived by his two daughters, Debbie Terhune (Troy P), Sturgis, Cheryl (Andy) Anderson, Belle Fourche; one son, Charles (Chuck) Jones Jr., Faith; grandchildren, Dawn, Melissa, Derek, Dustin, Kortlyn, Levi, Lindsey, and Vivianne; greatgrandchildren, Hailey, Ashlynn, Alexis, Camren, Kaius, and Iris; brother Robert (Florence) Jones, Thornton, CO; brother-in-law James Lyons, Usta and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded death by his parents; grandparents; infant daughter, Tammie Rae; brother Fred Jones Sr.; two sisters, Pearl Marie Jones and Glenette Lyons; niece, Sue; nephew, Fred Jr.; great niece, Grace and numerous special aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Visitation will be held from 5-7pm on Thursday, December 5, 2024, with a prayer service and sharing at 6 pm at Kline Funeral Chapel in Belle Fourche.
