Eleanor Evenson

Eleanor Evenson, 89, of McIntosh, SD passed away with her family at her side at the Five Counties Nursing Home in Lemmon, SD on Saturday, September 3, 2016.
    Service of Remembrance was Thursday, September 8, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in McIntosh, SD. Rev. Adam Pilarski officiated and following a lunch at the McIntosh City Hall, burial followed at the Greenhill Cemetery in Lemmon, SD. Family and friends gathered at Kermet & Cindy’s home at Shadehill after the burial.
    Visitations was from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 7 at the Evanson Jensen Funeral Home in Lemmon, SD and one hour prior to the service at the church in McIntosh on Thursday morning.
    Eleanor Edith Fogerty was born November 27, 1929 at Cole SD to Frank and Florence Fogerty. She attended grade school at Cole, SD, attended Bison High School and graduated at Lemmon High School in 1947. When she was a teenage girl she worked at the Meadow Grocery Store and stayed with the proprietors during the summer. Eleanor was walking down the street with 2 Evenson girls that were her friends and their brother drove up in his car to visit with them and it was then that she met Ray Evenson. They dated and went to dances and on November 22, 1947 they were married at a Lutheran church at Belle Fourche SD. They lived in Lemmon in a small trailer house behind Ray’s parents’ house and she worked at the Grand River Grazing office located in the basement of the post office, then later worked at the JC Penney store. Ray and Eleanor went to work for several farmers before buying their own farm northeast of Thunder Hawk, SD in Sioux County, North Dakota until moving to their present home at McIntosh SD in 1960. For a short time Eleanor worked in the Corson County States Attorney office as a secretary. She was on the election board, worked as a Home Health Aide, St. Paul’s Lutheran Church Ladies Aid and census worker.
    Eleanor was an avid gardener, enjoyed her flowers and being on the farm, working with the cattle, dairy cows, raising chickens and enjoyed the farm dog and kitties. She always looked forward to the Corson County Fair in McIntosh and took pride in her embroidery and baked goods and was always anxious to enter them in the Corson County Fair where she won several purple and blue ribbons.
    She is survived by her husband Ray, daughters Alice Brown (Alan), of New Underwood SD, Rita Kling (Lyle) of Keldron SD, Cindy Kahl (Kermet) of Shadehill SD and son Dennis Evenson (Shari) of McIntosh, SD.
    Also surviving are 6 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren.
    Preceding her in death are her parents Frank and Florence Fogerty, sisters Ora Mitchell and Enola Sorlie, and brothers Frank and Lyman Fogerty.
