Tom Lebeda, age 84

Tom Lebeda

Tom Lebeda went to his eternal home on January 29, 2017, after a lengthy struggle with cancer and Parkinson’s. Tom was a soft spoken man with a rock solid faith in God; a living example to all who knew him, especially his loving family.

Tom was born in Murdo on October 24, 1932, where he grew up and lived most of his entire life.  After graduating from Murdo High School, Tom joined the Army, spending some time in Korea during the war.

He was united in marriage to Venetta “Jody” Tracy in Murdo on June 18, 1965. They raised two children: Charles Robert Lebeda and Marci Dee Lebeda. Tom was a farmer, rancher and construction worker.

Tom was an active member of Messiah Lutheran Church, the American Legion and the VFW. He was on the Murdo City Council when the rural pipeline was in its beginning stages, and also served on the Murdo Cemetery Board for many years.

Tom was a very precise guy, and this showed in all he did, whether farming, ranching or building one of the many structures in and around Murdo. Much of his time was spent nursing his cows and he most enjoyed calving season. As long as he was able, he worked on the farm, and it was a big part of his life and where he was the happiest. He was very family oriented, and his most favorite times were spent  with the grandchildren teaching them to ride horses, to fish, to hunt, and the value of working to get what you want.

He is survived by Venetta “Jody,” his wife of 52 years; son, Charles “Chuck,” Murdo; daughter, Marci (Lebeda) Farmer, Letcher, S.D.; five grandchildren, Lacy Lebeda, Denver, Colo.; Sonya Lebeda, Vivian, S.D.; Randy Lebeda, Murdo; April Farmer, Madison S.D.; and Renee Farmer, Letcher S.D.; a brother, Fred Lebeda, Michigan; and sisters,  Julia Broecher, Murdo; Annabelle  McDaniels, Rapid City; Betty Beck, Pierre; and Leone  Kreager, Valley, Neb.
He was preceded in death by his parents; eight siblings and one grandson, Aaron Lebeda.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Messiah Building Fund or the Murdo Cemetery Association.
Services were held on Thursday, February 2 at Messiah Lutheran Church in Murdo with visitation prior. Burial followed at Murdo Cemetery. Arrangements have been placed in the care of Isburg Funeral Chapel. Online condolences may be made at www.isburgfuneralchapels.com
