Tom Kukal, age 82, Kadoka, S.D., died Sunday, July 30, 2017, at the Hans P. Peterson Memorial Hospital in Philip.
Edward (Tom) Kukal was born Jan. 1, 1935, in Spearfish to Ladd and Ruth (Sherman) Kukal.
Tom grew up east of Wanblee on the farm. He attended Sandhill School and Wanblee public school in old Washabaugh County. He graduated from Kadoka High School.
In 1955, he was united in marriage to Arlee Good. They moved to Rapid City where he worked for Barber Transportation. They later moved to Idaho where he worked for Peter Keywit Construction. In 1959, they moved back to South Dakota and worked for Turner Construction.
In 1960, they moved back to the farm near Wanblee. In 1965, they bought the farm from his parents. Tom also worked for the Agriculture Stabilization and Conservation Service (ASCS) office and was a school board member for Washabaugh County for 12 years. Tom was also a member of the Kadoka Equity Union Board and a member of the Eagle Nest Life Center Church.
Although they sold the farm in 2009, they continued to reside there until his death.
Grateful for sharing his life with his wife of 62 years, Arlee, Kadoka; four children, son, Marty Kukal and his wife, Molly, Garrison, Mont., daughter, Tonya Crisman, Douglas, Wyo., son, Joe Kukal and his wife, Kassie, Kadoka, and daughter, Tana O'Connor and companion, Terry Sell, Rapid City; 14 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; one sister, Jonita Stapleton and her husband, Phil, Iowa; a special brother and sister-in-law, Gordon and Janet Good and family, Long Valley; and a host of other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister-in-law, Mavis Nohrenberg.
Memorials to the American Heart Association would be appreciated by the family.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 3, 2017, at the Presbyterian Church in Kadoka with Pastor Gus Craven officiating.
