Robert (Bob) Iverson

Robert (Bob) Leslie Iverson of Sioux Falls passed away on October 10, 2022, [with his beloved wife, Marilyn, and daughters by his side].
Bob was born August 19, 1942, in Pierre, S.D. to Robert and Thelma Iverson. Bob had many talents, but the first and greatest of these was farming. He began farming as a child with his family in Murdo and continued for over 40 years as an adult. When he was not at the farm he could be found working as a skilled mechanic at the Ford garage, doing carpentry work, which was clear through the beautiful home he built for his family, running a successful craft business with his wife, Marilyn, along with many years as a teacher, and an all-around handy man.
He graduated Murdo High School and later South Dakota State University with a BS in Mechanized Agriculture.  He was united in marriage to Marilyn Helen Odland on February 1, 1964. This union blessed them with four daughters; Tracy Jo, Tanya Leslie, Tiffany Lynn,  and Tamara Kay. While in College he was a member of ROTC and upon graduation he was deployed by the army and stationed in Vicenza, Italy during the Vietnam War. After completing his tour of duty as a Captain, he returned home to continue working on the family farm alongside his father.
Bob was very active in his community. He served in the Lions Club, was an FSA Board Member, delivered food to community members with Meals on Wheels, as well as serving as a City Councilman. Additionally, Bob was a member of the Messiah Lutheran Church for over 50 years, where he served as a Trustee, and more recently, Chairman of the congregation. During his tenure as a Trustee, he helped the church install the south stained-glass windows, something that he was quite proud of.
Known for his work ethic, levelheadedness, and shrewd intellect, Bob was also a patient and tolerant man. When Bob wasn’t working on the farm, serving his community, or with his family, he could be found reading, hunting with his family or doing anything car-related, especially watching car races on television. More than anything else, Bob enjoyed traveling and spending time with his wife, daughters, grandchildren, whom his life centered around.
Bob is survived by his wife, Marilyn, Sioux Falls, S.D.; daughters, Tracy Crist (Mike) Allen, Texas, Tanya Anderson, Pearland Texas, and Tiffany Grode (Tom) Brandon, S.D.; Son-in-law, Dave Anderson, Tampa, Fla., Son-in-law, Scott Mathews, Murdo, S.D.;  9 grandchildren: Andrew Anderson, Tampa, Fla.; Abbigalle Anderson, Pearland, Texas; Chandler Anderson (Nicki Stopanio) Tampa, Fla.; Philip Mathews (Cecy) Murdo, S.D.; Reid Grode (Kaylee) Brandon, S.D.; Madison Mathews of Houston, Texas; Chase Grode (Alyssa Van Kalsbeek) Sioux Falls, S.D.; Saylor Anderson, Pearland, Texas; Quinn Grode, Brandon, S.D.;  and great-grandchild, Stella Anderson, Tampa, Fla.;  Sisters, Darleen Inglis, Bristol, Conn.; Judy Brost, Sioux Falls, S.D.; Nita Kingsbury (Kenny) Wood, S.D.; and Jennifer Olson (Ole) Piedmont, S.D.; and many loved nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his daughter Tamara Mathews; parents Robert and Thelma; Brother Barry; brothers-in-law Dick Inglis, Dallas Brost, and Duane Odland; sister-in-law Tish Odland; and his father/mother-in-law Justus and Helen Odland.
Memorials may be directed to South Dakota Parkinson Foundation or Messiah Lutheran Church Murdo, S.D.
