Nola V. (Warkenthien) Tellinghuisen

 

Nola V. (Warkenthien) Tellinghuisen, 82, long-time Spearfish resident passed away Monday February 15, 2016 at Sanford Medical Center in Sioux Falls, S.D.
 
Nola was born on the family farm west of Willow Lake, S.D., on September 21, 1933 to Emmet and Clara (Peterson) Warkenthien. She attended school in Willow Lake where she graduated in 1951.
 
She married Alan Tellinghuisen, on October 28, 1951. The couple lived in Watertown, S.D., until 1955 when they moved to a farm near Willow Lake, where they farmed briefly, before purchasing the Willow Lake Locker Plant. In 1963, they moved to New Berlin, Wis., where she was a homemaker and mother to their four children.
 
She was active in the Reformed Church, serving as a Sunday school and vacation bible school teacher, as well as participating in the Women’s Guild. In 1973, the couple moved to Spearfish, S.D., where she was an active member in the United Church of Christ, the UCC Women’s Club, Mother’s Club and Coronet Club. She also participated in a bowling league, as well as serving as a crossing guard at West Elementary School.
 
After Alan’s retirement in 1994, the two of them spent many winters in Lake Havasu City. Together they enjoyed traveling, horseback riding, fishing, attending local high school and college athletic events. They often enjoyed going to American Legion Baseball games as well many school and sporting activities of their grandchildren. She enjoyed shopping with her daughters and hosting family gatherings whenever possible.
 
She is survived by her son, Roger (Marya) Tellinghuisen, Rapid City, S.D.; daughters, Paulette (Paul) Smith, Westminster, Colo., Roxanne (Mike) Everhard, Moorcroft, Wyo., and Kathy (Mike) Ragels of Sioux Falls, S.D.; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; sisters, Lavonne Brekke, Clark, S.D., Shirley (Vernon) Stroschein, Clear Lake, S.D., Loris (Harry Dean) Kannegieter, DeSmet, S.D., and Gaylen (Larry) Grensberg, Willow Lake, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by Alan in 2007, her parents, brothers, Gene and Robert Warkenthien and an infant sister.
 
Visitation was held on Friday, February 19, 2016 at Fidler-Isburg Funeral Chapel in Spearfish with a prayer service following.
 
Funeral services were held on Saturday, February 20 at the United Church of Christ in Spearfish. Burial followed at Rose Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to benefit the Spearfish Food Pantry.
 
Arrangements are under the care of Fidler-Isburg Funeral Chapels and Crematory Service of Spearfish.
