Myrth A. Bauman

August 5, 1925 - May 26, 2015

Myrth A. Bauman, age 89, Kadoka, S.D., died Tuesday, May 26, 2015, at the Hans P. Peterson Memorial Hospital in Philip.
Myrth Adair Humphrey was born August 5, 1925, in Granite Falls, Minn., the daughter of Carl and Elsie (Schroyer) Humphrey.
Myrth spent much of her childhood in the Belvidere area where her parents ran the grocery store. She attended school in Belvidere, moving to Kadoka her senior year. She graduated from Kadoka High School in 1944. She then attended nursing school in Mitchell for one year before working for Dr. Sundet in Kadoka that summer.
Nursing school was forgotten though, when Myrth and Frank Bauman were married in November of 1945. (Frank would joke about all the lives he probably saved when he married her before she finished nursing training! She used her training often, however, while caring for her children when they were sick or had broken bones. Her knowledge of first aid and what to do in an emergency came in valuable on more than one occasion.)
After their marriage, they moved to the Bauman Ranch near Frank’s parents near Long Valley, where they lived until moving into Kadoka in 1992.
Myrth accepted the Lord at a young age and rededicated her life to Him in the early years of marriage. She and Frank were very dedicated to training their children in the ways of the Lord. They attended Norris Union Sunday School for many years while living on the ranch. After moving to Kadoka, they both joined the Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include her husband, Frank Bauman, Kadoka; eight children, Jo (Gene) Christensen, Kadoka, Dave (Sandi) Bauman, Carson, N.D., Carl (Suzie) Bauman, Kadoka, Vicki (John) Healy, Mitchell, Susan (Dean) Smith, Hampton, Iowa, Larry (Angel) Bauman, Conway, Mo., John (Judy) Bauman, Long Valley, and Scott (Marty) Bauman, Long Valley; 26 grandchildren; 70 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Jean Stratton, Loveland, Colo., and Ione Schneider of Katy, Texas; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Myrth was preceded in death by her parents; two great-granddaughters, Faith Smith and Aubrey Chambers; and a brother, Dale Humphrey.
Funeral services were held Saturday, May 30, at the Presbyterian Church in Kadoka, with Pastor Gary McCubbin officiating.
Music was provided by Mallory Bauman, pianist, and Gene Christensen, vocalist.
Ushers were Tim Merchen, Jim Berry, Evan Bligh and Tom DeVries.
Pallbearers were Dale Christensen, David Christensen, Troy Bauman, Kenny Kortuem, Devon Bauman, Casey Bauman, Nathan Healy, Matthew Healy, Andrew Smith, Michael Smith, Peter Smith, Boe Bauman, Dakota Bauman, Frank Bauman and Ferris Bauman. Honorary pallbearers were Bob Holcomb, Harry Merchenb, Francis VanderMay and Tom Terkildsen.
Interment was at the Bauman Family Cemetery near Long Valley.
Arrangements were with the Rush Funeral Chapel of Kadoka.
