Margery Ione Hayes
Margery Ione Hayes, age 93, formerly of Draper, S.D.; surrounded by her family, went peacefully to the Lord on Friday, November 30, 2018 at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, S.D. A visitation will be held in Sioux Falls on Wednesday, December 5, 2018 at George Boom Funeral Home from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. There will be a second visitation on Thursday, December 6, 2018 beginning at 5:00 p.m. at Christ the King Catholic Church, Presho, S.D., followed by a vigil service and Holy Rosary at 7:00 p.m. CDT. The funeral Mass will be at Christ the King Catholic Church, Presho, S.D., at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, December 7, 2018, followed by interment at the Draper Cemetery.
Margery Ione, the daughter of Loretta and Ben Rankin, Draper, S.D., was born on March 3, 1925, in Draper, S.D. Margery attended grade school at Sloan's School, 13 miles from Draper, and graduated from Draper High School in 1943. After graduation, Margery attended Notre Dame College in Mitchell, S.D., and went on to teach at the Cressy School, the White Lake Public School, and the Draper Public School.
Margery was united in marriage with her high school sweetheart, George Keith Hayes on Sept. 2, 1948, in Draper, S.D., and continued teaching first and second grades in Draper until 1951. In 1968, she started working at the Draper State Bank and worked until her retirement in 2010. In 2012, Marge moved to Sioux Falls. In June 2015, she moved into the Inn at Westport in Sioux Falls and in November of 2017, she moved into the Dow Rummel Village in Sioux Falls. Margery was a parishioner at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Sioux Falls.
Margery greatly enjoyed working in the bank with husband Keith, celebrating holidays with family and friends, snowmobiling, decorating her house, working with her flowers and plants at her rural Draper home, and spending time with her children and grandchildren.
Margery is survived by her three children: Mary (Mike) Dott, Sioux Falls, S.D., Jody (Scott) Wingert, Benton City, Wash., and Steve (Marla) Hayes, Presho, S.D.; five grandchildren: Ryan (Jamie) Dott, Stephanie (Shane) Klemann, Joshua (Candace) Wingert, Jaime (Jordan) Moran, and Nicholas Hayes; eight great-grandchildren: Malachi, Uriah, Remington, Beckett, Everlee, Garrett, Kylie and Micha; and a host of relatives and friends.
Margery was preceded in death by her husband, Keith in on April 27, 2005; her parents: Benjamin and Lorreta Rankin; her sister, Lois Louder; and brothers: Bud, Harold, Clifford and Francis Rankin.
