Lois Janette Haines-McInerney

Lois Janette Haines-McInerney, 98, died peacefully on January 29, 2021, surrounded by her loving family.
Lois was born to Albert and Elizabeth (Peregrine) Schuelke on January 11, 1923 in Mud Butte, SD. She was the 5th of 13 children. She lived on her parents’ ranch and later graduated from Spearfish High School. After high school graduation, Lois attended Black Hills College and received her teacher’s certificate. After which, she taught grade school at the Olson-McDermott country school for a few years.
In 1943, Lois married Dale Haines of Maurine, SD. Together, they operated a ranch and raised their seven children: Marty, Jackie, Mikki, Connie, Linda, Mike, and Squeak.
In 1971, Lois lost her husband, Dale, of 28 years. In 1976, she married Ted McInerney. After running an antique store for several years, they moved to Sundance, WY, where they resided until his death in 2002. After Ted’s passing in 2002, Lois moved to Spearfish, where she lived the remainder of her life.
Lois enjoyed reading books, playing cards, quilting, bowling, and spending time with her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Elizabeth Schuelke; her first husband, Dale Haines and their child, Marty; her second husband, Ted McInerney and his two children, Teddi and Brian; one grandchild, Riley Robert Haines; five brothers, Bob, Everett, Darrel, Dean, and Harold; and five sisters, Lola, Faye, Berma, Earleen, and Mamie.
She is survived by her six children, Jackie (Ed) Logan, Mikki Brugman, Connie (Roger) Hawley, Linda Gram, Mike (Holly) Haines, and Squeak (Roxie) Haines; one stepson-in-law, Dan Essink; one stepdaughter-in-law, Mitch McInerney; one sister, Margaret "McGee" Vansickel; one brother, Jerry Schuelke; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Thursday, February 4, 2021, at the Prairie Home Church in Faith, SD with Pastor Harold Delbridge officiating. Burial followed at Bear Butte Cemetery in Sturgis, SD.
A memorial has been established for the Mud Butte Volunteer Fire Dept.
