Lillian “Shorty” Peters

Lillian “Shorty” Peters, age 90, passed away at her home in Ephrata, Washington, with family at her side, after a short illness on Wednesday, November 23, 2016.
 
Shorty was born on November 7, 1926, in White River, South Dakota, to Mary and Ralph Walker. She graduated from the White River High School in 1944 where she played clarinet in the marching band.
 
She met Clyde Peters before he left for World War II. When he returned from the war, they mar- ried on July 13, 1946 and made their home in South Dakota.
 
In 1957 they homesteaded outside of Ephrata with the Columbia Basin Irrigation Project. They returned to the Plains states in 1965 and returned to the Ephrata area in 1969.
 
Shorty enjoyed gardening, baking and was a talented seam- stress. She took care of her home and yard until she passed. She was a woman with fortitude. All who knew her will never forget her strong spirit.
 
She was preceded in death by her husband Clyde Peters; infant son Dennis; and brother John Walker.
 
She is survived by her sisters Jo Hoff, Ephrata and Anna Marie Hullinger, Murdo, S.D.; sons Rod Peters and Mark Peters of Ephrata; Clayton Peters of Soap Lake; daughters Cindy Millican of Moses Lake, Jody Swem of Soap Lake and Mary Ramirez of Yulee, Fla. She has 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
 
Her services will be held on July 21 at 11:00 am. at the Black Hills National Cemetery in Sturgis, South Dakota, where her husband was laid to rest.
