Leona M. Cressy, age 85, of Rapid City passed away on Monday, March 27, 2017 at the Hospice House in Rapid City.
Leona Mae Dickey was born in Murdo, S.D., to Lester and Mabelle (Westfall) Dickey on February 17, 1932. She grew up in and around Murdo and graduated from Murdo High School in 1950.
On September 10, 1950 she married Denzel Cressy, Jr. and they had three daughters.
They retired to the “cabin” in the Black Hills in 1989. She worked in various places including Johnson Siding, Hill City and Mount Rushmore.
Leone was preceded in death by her husband, Denzel Cressy, Jr.; her parents; and two brothers, James and Kenneth Dickey.
She is survived by her daughters, Joyce (Dennis) Waldron of Payson, Ariz., Linda (Bill Harms) Murphy of Hot Sulphur Springs, Colo., and Donna (Tim) Hoard of Sundance, Wyo.; eight grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; one sister, Carolyn (Richard) Tireman; two sisters-in-law, Maris Dickey and Daisy Dickey; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Visitation was held at Kirk Funeral Home in Rapid City on Friday, March 31.
Services were held on Saturday, April 1, at the Murdo United Methodist Church with the Rev. Travis Krogman officiating. Burial followed in the Murdo Cemetery.
