Lanny Hopfinger

Lanny D. Hopfinger, age 80, went to be with his Savior on August 25, 2022 at West River Regional Medical Center in Hettinger, ND.
The Funeral Service for Lanny was held at 2:00pm MT, Saturday, August 27, 2022 at St. Luke’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lemmon.  Pastor Richard Kanzenbach will officiate with burial in Greenhill Cemetery at Lemmon.

Serving as casketbearers are Grant Petik, Zachary Fisher, Noah Watson, Brent Hopfinger, Travis Watson, Kurt Petik, and Garry Lane.
Lanny Hopfinger was born December 10th, 1941 to Mark and Florence (Deuschle) Hopfinger. He was the second of three children. He was born on the family ranch near Bison, SD.
Early in his youth, the family moved to Lemmon, SD where Lanny attended elementary and high school graduating from Lemmon High School in 1959. From high school into adulthood, Lanny was active and played a variety of sports.
 In 1965 Lanny met the love of his life, Irene Schwarz, and it was love at first sight. On April 16, 1966 Lanny and Irene were united in Holy Matrimony.
 Lanny worked several different jobs over the years including Wheeler Manufacturing, Braught’s SuperValu (where he met Irene) and the Lemmon Tribune. Lanny also worked in Seattle, WA for a stint right after high school. Lanny spent most of his career as a banker at the First National Bank (later First Bank) and as a bank examiner for the State of South Dakota retiring in 2005. Lanny was also a member of the South Dakota Army National Guard unit in Lemmon, SD during the late 1960s attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant.
 Lanny belonged to St. Luke’s Lutheran Church where he served as an usher and council member.
Lanny enjoyed woodworking and did much of the construction of the final home he and Irene shared while raising their children. Lanny also enjoyed music and from a young age was an avid guitar player. Lanny played for several local bands (The Whirlwinds, The Wheels and Borrowed Time) throughout his life.
He is survived by his one son Marcus (Deborah) Hopfinger, White, SD; three daughters Angela (Garry) Lane,  Lemmon, SD; Leah (Kurt) Petik, Fond du Lac, WI; Felicia (Travis) Watson, Sioux Falls, SD; ten grandchildren Adele & Elyse Hopfinger, Amanda (Teal) Letellier, Zachary (Alexandra) Fischer, Grant, Kiya and Irelyn Petik, Neka, Madison and Noah Watson;  four step-grandchildren Isaac Pudas, Jordan (Ariel) Lane, Emily Lane, and Taylor (Christian) Ker; three great-grandchildren Kai and Luna Letellier, and Raven Fischer; and three step-great-grandchildren Tatum, Riley and Jackson Ker; two brothers Dennis (Carolyn) Hopfinger, Brookings, SD, Brian (Darlene) Hopfinger, Lemmon, SD; two brothers-in-law Ray (Priscilla) Schwarz, Minot, ND; Otto (Connie) Schwarz, Hettinger, ND; one sister-in-law Marietta (Warren) Sakshaug, Byron Center, MI; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
 He was preceded in death by his wife, Irene.
