Joyce Kjerstad

Joyce Kjerstad, age 76, of Jackson, Wyoming, died on Saturday, May 14, 2022 in Jackson after a battle with cancer.

Joyce L. Kjerstad (Hough) was born July 6, 1945 in Custer, South Dakota. She was the fifth of six children born to Walter and Vera Hough. She was raised in Hill City, South Dakota and received all of her education there. In 1963 she met and married Roger Kjerstad from Quinn, South Dakota. The two of them started their lives together by moving to Alaska, but they didn’t stay long. It was quite the honeymoon. They had three children; Kelly, Peder and Kory, and lived in six different states before they moved to Jackson, Wyoming in 1976. There they started a helicopter business with Roger’s brother, Floyd. Joyce drove a fuel truck all over the state of Wyoming to fuel the helicopter while planting fish for the state of Wyoming.

Joyce was very supportive of her family and attended all of their sporting events which kept her busy for many years. Her home was always open to all of her children’s friends so there was always a full house and she was a second mom to many. Joyce loved babies and children and ran a daycare in her home for many years. She was very excited to have grandkids and enjoyed every minute with them. She enjoyed bowling and was part of the town league. Her bowling ball was slow moving, but accurate.

Joyce went home to be with the Lord on May fourteenth. She was dearly loved by her husband, children, and grandchildren.

Grateful for having shared her life are her husband, Roger Kjerstad, of Jackson, Wyoming, daughter, Kelly Kwallek and her husband, Bob of Etna, Wyoming; two sons, Peder Kjerstad and his wife,Gina of Chandler, Arizona and Kory Kjerstad and Diane of Henderson, Nevada; four grandchildren, Kole, Karlie, Kamy, and Kane, a brother, Leslie “Babe” Hough of Bremerton, Washington, a sister, Lucille Gorseth of Pleasant Hill, Oregon, and a host of other relatives and friends.

Joyce was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers; Dale Hough, Howard Hough, and Roy Hough.

Graveside services will be held 3 p.m. Saturday, May 21, at the Mt. Hope Cemetery near Quinn with Pastor Kathy Chesney officiating.
