John R. Kingsbury

John R. Kingsbury, age 77, of Pine Island, Minnesota, died on Friday, March 4, 2022 at St. Mary's Hospital Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. 

John Robert Kingsbury was the fifth child born to Raymond George and Mary Irene (Mullin) Kingsbury of Keystone, South Dakota. His siblings included: Anna Ruth Kingsbury, Mary Esther Fox, Archie Raymond Kingsbury (Sue), Bess Wadleigh-Morse, and James Edward Kingsbury.

He attended South Dakota School of Mines & Technology, South Dakota State University, and Pillsbury Baptist Bible College where he completed under-graduate and post-graduate work. He began his career in construction by starting a roofing company in Rapid City, South Dakota, while attending Central High School. Over the course of his career, he taught shop class, built single-family homes, custom homes, hospitality and restaurant developments, along with government projects, and ultimately was a highly successful entrepreneur that founded in 1980, along with his wife, Jeanie, Kingsbury Builders Supply, INC. He was an active real estate investor and enjoyed raising beef cattle, doing woodworking projects, and travelling in his later years. John was an inventive risk taker who masterminded unique engineering feats. He was known as a “go-to guy” within the Twin Cities construction industry.

He received much pleasure through extensive philanthropy efforts worldwide. He was a dedicated life-time church member and influenced countless lives.

John is survived by his daughter, Megan R. Kingsbury; his wife of five years, Hannah (Plaugher) Kingsbury, and her three children.

He was preceded in death by his wife of forty-four years, Gloria Jean (Jeanie) Grimes; four of his siblings; and his parents.

A memorial visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 12, with memorial services to follow at 11:00 a.m. at the Midwest Bible Baptist Church 5930 Bandel Rd. NW, Rochester, MN 55901 with Pastor Caleb Hanson officiating. Live streaming will be available at www.midwestbiblebaptistchurch.org.

Graveside services will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 14, at the Mountain View Cemetery in Keystone, South Dakota with Pastor Chris Swarthout officiating.
