Jim Oldenberg, age 83, of Philip, South Dakota, died on Monday, November 20, 2023 at Scotchman Living Center in Philip.
James Ralph Oldenberg was born in Rapid City, SD on September 12, 1940 to Wilbur and Marion (Eide) Oldenberg. He grew up on the family ranch north of Philip, SD. He was called home to work the cattle on the thousand hills of heaven, Monday, November 20, 2023.
Jim attended elementary school at the Deadman Creek School south of the ranch. He started high school in Rapid City and came back to Philip High School He continued working at the family ranch till he moved February 1964 to the family ranch in Wasta
In 1964, he married the love of his life, Norma Finck in Philip, SD. Jim and Norma made their home in Wasta on his parent’s ranch. Debbie was born while living in Wasta. They moved to Marcus, July 1969 operating a ranch for Charles Jordan. Jim ran a large cow/calf operation with one arm, by himself for 37 years.
They moved to Ross and Janice’s in 2006 and helped with farming and ranching and raising grandkids. Many great memories were made.
They made their retirement home in Philip in 2010 and Jim continued ranch/farming with Dave Solberg at Seven Blackfoot Ranch and later decided to semi-retire and worked for Mark Buchholz feeding cows which he loved.
He loved cows and ranching, this was a big part of his life.
Survivors include his wife Norma; two daughters Debbie (Newton) Brown of Faith, and Janice (Ross) Williams of Philip; grandchildren Casey Brown, Clay (Brandi) Brown; Megan, Lane, Allison and Levi Williams, Ashley (Kreid) Amiotte; four great-grandchildren Brindle and Whitley Brown and Mia and Ace Amiotte; sisters Joan (Bill) Robb of Dexter, NM; and Judy Melvin of Sioux Falls, SD, many nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Jerry and Johnny Oldenberg; brother-in-law Michael Melvin.

Visitation was held 5-7 p.m. Friday, November 24 at the Rush Funeral Home in Philip.
Funeral services were held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, November 25, 2023 at the American Legion Hall with Pastor Harold Delbridge officiating.
Interment followed at the Masonic Cemetery in Philip.
