Jeanne Radway, age 90

Jeanne Radway

Jeanne Radway, age 90, of Philip, S.D., died on Sunday, July 17, 2016, at the Hans P. Peterson Memorial Hospital in Philip.
Jeanne M. Ferry Radway was born June 13, 1926, in Oldham, the daughter of Marion and Hazel (Hendrickson) Ferry.
She was raised in Oldham and attended three years of high school at Oldham before moving for her senior year to Philip to care for her cousins, and graduated in 1944. She attended Aberdeen Presentation School of Nursing and graduated from there in 1947.
Jeanne was united in marriage to Rex E. Radway in January 1948. They moved to Chicago, Ill., where Jeanne worked as a nurse for 10 years. In 1957, they moved back and she worked at Hans P. Peterson Memorial Hospital for 52 years.
She was a member of United Church and a past member of Hardingrove Presbyterian Church of Milesville. She was also a member of the United Women, Bad River Senior Citizens Center, and enjoyed playing cards in her spare time.
Her passions included nursing, playing card games, clean windows and her weekly hair appointments. She made cakes and buns from scratch, hardly ever sat down to eat a full meal and cared for whomever arrived at her doorstep – literally.
Jeanne Radway Day was proclaimed by Governor Michael Rounds on June 13, 2006, for being a caretaker, giver, doer, and expecting nothing in return. She always thought, “if you can’t say something nice – don’t say anything at all.”
Grateful for having shared her life include six children, Sandra "Sandy" Rathbun of Orlando, Fla., Thomas "Tom" Radway and his wife, Marie, of Philip, Todd Radway and his wife, Traci, of Philip, Stacy Dole and her husband, Gary, of Black Hawk; and Rex "Mark" Radway and his wife, Judith, of Philip; 12 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson: Lori Carlson and her children, Taylor (Garret) Heath, Logan, Quinn, Regan, and Lexi McElfresh; Nicole (Paul) Dickinson and their sons, Jack and Carter; Melissa Rathbun and her son, Bradley and wife, Alexa, and their son, JB; Marcy (William) Morrison, T.J., Spencer and Luther Morrison; Mindy (Luke) Smith and their children, Payton, Laney, Jazlyn, Breely, Lex and Creighton; Cain (Kristin) Radway and their children, Julian Small and Rex Radway; Alex (Jeni) Radway and their children, Adlee, Henli and Aven; Kelly (M.J.)
