Janet Elaine Doan Gehring

Janet Elaine Doan Gehring was born to Clarence and Florence (Miles) Doan on July 19, 1952, in Isabel, SD.  Janet attended elementary school in Isabel, SD.  Around the age of 10, Janet (and younger sister, Edith) moved with their Uncle Marvin and Aunt Donna (Miles) Bertsch after their Mom passed away.  She attended junior high and high school in McIntosh, SD.  After graduating high school in 1971, she attended North American Baptist College in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada for 1 year from 1971 to 1972.  Janet moved from McIntosh, SD, to Spearfish, SD, in 1999 where she worked at the Days Inn for 2 years and Black Hills State University dining services for 15 years as a cook and baker.  She attended Grace Fellowship in Spearfish.
Since 2016, Janet was fighting ovarian cancer.  On Monday, August 13, 2018, her fight ended as she went home to her Lord Jesus after moving to the Hospice House in Rapid City, SD.
Survivors include her two daughters, Denise Gehring of Covina, CA, and Dana Gehring of Mission, SD; parents, Marvin and Donna (Miles) Bertsch of Spearfish, SD; siblings, Clyde Doan of Redding, CA, Linda (Doan) & Gary Watzel of Pierre, SD, David & Mattie Doan of Isabel, SD, Doug & Heather Doan of Ridge Springs, SC, Clayton & Kathy Doan of Belle Fourche, SD, Wendy (Doan) Red Bear of Minneapolis, MN, Edith (Doan) & Wayne Grefsrud of Fargo, ND, Lisa (Tammy) Fleury of Summerset, SD, and Korbyn & Josie Bertsch of Sisseton, SD; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Janet was preceded in death by her parents, Florence (Miles) and Clarence Doan; and brother, Kim Bertsch.     
Visitation was at Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis, SD, on Monday, August 20th from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.
Funeral services were held at Grace Fellowship in Spearfish, SD, on Tuesday, August 21, 2018, at 10:30 a.m.  Graveside services followed at the Chance Cemetery in Chance, SD, at 2:30 p.m.   
Donations, in lieu of flowers, will be accepted at Pioneer Bank in Spearfish (605-642-2725) with attention to Denise Gehring for funeral and medical expenses.
