Helen Marie Anderson

March 31, 1924 - September 9, 2015
Helen Marie Ploog was born March 31, 1924, to Henry and Mayme (Ruziska) Ploog at their country home weighing only 4 lbs., fitting in one of her Dad's hands.  Helen or, "Toots" as she was called by friends and family, went to country school not far from her home.  She attended High school in Thunder Hawk until the school was closed at the end of her junior year.  She then attended Lemmon High School staying in town during the school year and graduated in 1941.
She met Charles Anderson in 1940. After he graduated, he went on to Mankato, ND, for a year. Helen, after graduating, went to Business College in Minneapolis as she was not old enough to attend nursing school which was her real passion. When she came home, she worked at Fort Meade in the Ordinance Department continuing to spend lots of time with Charles.
Charles and Helen were married on July 19, 1943. They lived on Charles' parents place. When Charles was drafted into the service in 1945, Helen went to live with her parents in Thunder Hawk until he returned from the war in 1946. They made their home on the Culver place.
Helen was a devoted and caring Mom, Grandma and Great Grandma.
She enjoyed cooking and baking her favorites like kolaches, homemade breads and awesome rolls. She was the best lefse maker in the county. Helen had a yard and flowers that should have been in Better Homes & Garden magazine. She loved to go dancing, bowling and golfing and was hard to beat. Helen loved making clothes for herself and her daughters, and was an avid quilter making many quilts for friends and family.
Helen, 91, Meadow, SD, died Wednesday morning, September 9, 2015, at the Good Samaritan Society of Mott, ND.
She is survived by daughters, Sandy Wagner and Cindy (Leroy) Klein; one son, Tim (Merna) Anderson; seven grandchildren, Scott and Lisa Wagner, Terry, Michael and Brian Klein, and Stacy and Cody Anderson; sixteen great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband, Charles; granddaughter, Tanya; and brother, Kenny.
Committal services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Monday, September 21, 2015, at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.  Friends may gather at the Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis prior to leaving for the cemetery.
