Harvey Victor Herrman

Harvey Victor Herrman, 94, of Sturgis, SD, passed away on November 26, 2020. He was born in Eureka, SD on October 16, 1926, to Solomon and Lydia Herrman.

Harvey and his beloved wife, Hilda, were longtime Dupree, SD residents. Over many years, they jointly owned and operated Harvey's Electric, Harvey's OK Hardware, and a Gambles store. He was an electrician, plumber, and jack-of-all-trades. Harvey was also a bus driver for the Dupree School District. He enjoyed that job very much and took pride in making sure the kids got to school safely. Harvey was a Lutheran Church member.

Harvey and Hilda raised four children: Linda (Joe) Gregg of Horace, ND, Dennis Herrman of Bismarck, ND, Gary (Renee) Herrman of Dupree, SD, and Tina (Rick) Neigel of Eagle Butte, SD.

Harvey was an avid fisherman and spent many hours fishing the Missouri River, searching for the trophy walleye. He loved playing cards and was a tough opponent. He was also a musician, playing the accordion and harmonica to entertain friends and family. He was a member of the band, The Pickers, who entertained the residents of Heritage Acres in Sturgis. Harvey lived in Heritage Acres for the last several years of his life and had many good friends there, including his special friend, Joanne Derby.

Many of his old and new friends will remember his woodworking skills. He made and gave away hundreds of little telephones, and everyone remembers the lawn art and humorous toys that he made and gave away. He will be missed by his many friends and family.

He leaves behind his children; 17 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and 8 great-great-grandchildren; 4 step-grandchildren; and 4 step-great-grandchildren.

Harvey was a WWII Veteran and will be interred at the Black Hills National Cemetery following a short service to be held at Kinkade Funeral Home in Sturgis.
