Doris Mae Teller was born on May 25th, 1935 at the family homestead in rural Ziebach County, SD to Lloyd and Bernice (Vansickel) Teller. She attended grade school at the Lewis School, now known as Red Elm School, and then went on to graduate from Dupree High School in 1953.
After graduation, she awaited her love to return from serving in the US Army in Korea. Marvin Frankfurth and Doris were united in marriage on June 19, 1954. They made their home in Dupree, SD. Their son, Arlen “Hoss” was born on July 23rd, 1961. In the 60’s, they moved to Bremerton, WA for a short while. Following their return to SD, they lived at Cherry Creek to work in the grocery store. In 1964, they moved to Hereford, SD. They returned to Dupree, SD in the late 60’s, where Doris opened her first restaurant and found her love of cooking.
Their daughter, Marva was born on January 30, 1971. In the early 70’s, Doris started working at the Dupree School as the Head Cook, along with driving the school bus. During this time, she also attended culinary school in Brookings, SD.
Starting in 1979, they worked at various ranches in SD and WY, mom being the Chief Cook and Bottle-washer, until moving back to Faith, SD in 1989 and operated the Wrangler Café and Lounge. She was very active in the community and well known for her famous caramel rolls, doughnuts and long johns for miles around. After her husband, Marvin passed away on December 9, 2000, Doris also cooked for the Senior Center in Faith for several years. She remained in Faith through her retirement years and was a longtime member of Bethel Lutheran Church.
Doris passed away at the Rolling Hills Care Center in Belle Fourche, SD on Saturday, July 27, 2019. Doris had many hobbies, including being with grandchildren and great grandchildren, cooking (of course), sewing, crocheting and made many beautiful quilts and afghans. Sewing and cooking were her passions. She also enjoyed playing cards and marbles. Mom loved people – she was one lady that never met a stranger.
