The funeral service for Darlene Elizabeth Palmer, 89, of Aberdeen, SD, was held Monday, March 2, 2020, at Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, with Rev. Ruth Clendenin officiating. Burial followed at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Aberdeen. Darlene died Wednesday, February 26, in Aberdeen.
Darlene Elizabeth Fees was born January 10, 1931, to Floyd Clinton and Emily Iola (Hoskinson) Fees at Faith, SD. She was raised on the family ranch near Opal, SD, and attended country schools during her primary years. She then attended and graduated from Faith High School. Darlene helped on the ranch when growing up by herding sheep and riding the cattle.
Darlene married Jim Edward Palmer on November 3, 1951, in Sturgis, SD. They had one son, Jimmy Dale on April 7, 1955. They moved to Sturgis in 1961 after various ranch jobs. Later they moved to Faith and then Aberdeen in 1969. Darlene was a care giver to her husband Jim for eight years. Jim passed away on July 3, 2003. In July of 2015, Darlene moved to Prairie Heights Healthcare in Aberdeen.
Darlene was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Aberdeen. She collected all kinds of knick-knacks. In her younger years she loved horseback riding. She enjoyed working outside and taking care of her yard. One of Darlene’s favorite pastimes was visiting with her friends and going out for pie.
Grateful for having shared Darlene’s life are her son: Jim (Dawn) Palmer, Fargo, ND; her sister-in-law: Faye Fees of Opal, SD; and five nephews and eight nieces.
Preceding Darlene in death are her husband: Jim; parents: Floyd and Emily; her brothers: Byron, Wendell, Ronald and Glen Fees; and her sisters-in-law: Rose Fees and Darlene Fees.
