Danny Miles

Danny Miles, a man of grit, grease, and a great deal of heart, passed away on January 27th, 2025. Known as the guy who could fix anything with a motor, Danny was a determined, tireless worker who poured himself into every job, making sure to fully enjoy every hard-earned adventure when he finally stepped away from work.
Born in Sturgis on September 4, 1963, to Raymond and Esther Miles, Danny’s childhood in the wide-open spaces of South Dakota sparked a lifelong curiosity for how things worked. After graduating from Faith High School in 1982, he moved to Denver to study at the American Diesel Mechanic and Automotive School. He kicked off his career with the legendary title of “Super Duper Pooper Scooper” for Butler Trucking- a role he tackled with the same characteristic humor and determination he applied to every challenge.
Danny’s career was a testament to his versatility and backbone. Whether he was working for Paul’s Feed and Seed or driving trucks for his brother-in-law, Raymond, he was always in his element when things were moving. He spent much of his life farming hay, a job that suited his love for the land and his tireless work ethic. He was rarely seen without a friendly dog trotting faithfully at his heels; to Danny, his dogs weren’t just pets, but loyal companions.
The outdoors was Danny’s sanctuary, whether he was hunting, camping, or cutting through fresh powder on his snowmobile. One of his favorite adventures was snowmobiling through Yellowstone National Park with his family. He was just as content on his many trips to the Black Hills or the annual family camping vacation in Medora.
When the work was done, Danny knew how to relax. He was a fixture at family card nights and holiday gatherings. He was also a fierce (and vocal) supporter of the Vikings and the Twins. To his nieces and nephews, Danny was the “fun uncle.” They carry fond memories of “helping” him hay on the farm, settling in for movies, and occasionally getting into just the right amount of mischief under his watchful eye.
Danny will be remembered as a kind, handy, and genuinely good man- a determined worker who was always there when someone needed a hand. His family and friends will forever miss his humor, his helping hand, and his purple-and-gold spirit.
He is now reunited with his parents, Raymond and Esther.
Danny is survived by his siblings, Diane Isaacs, Ronald Miles, Barb (Alan) Bell, Marlene (George) Ridinger, and Darren (Dorreen) Miles, nieces and nephews Rebecca Thorstenson, Raymond Bell, Amanda Housewright, Kristina Miles, Rachel Ridinger, Kimberly Bell, Jamie Ridinger, several great-nieces and nephews, and honorary niece and nephew Tori Reeves and Josh Afdahl.
Visitation for Danny was held from Sunday, February 8 at the Faith Area Memorial Chapel. Funeral Services for Danny wereheld Monday, February 9 at the Faith Community Center. Burial followed at Rose Hill Cemetary in Spearfish, SD.
Danny's family and friends are encouraged to sign his online guestbook.
