Carolyn A. Aske

    Carolyn A. Aske, 73, of Pierre, died Saturday, May 14, 2016 at Mary House, Pierre.   
    Carolyn Ann (Scott) Aske was born May 19, 1945 to Glenn and Lauretta (Heien) Scott in Presho, S.D., at Ida Mallett Nursing Home by Dr. Newman, MD.  
    Carolyn grew up on the family farm three miles north of Vivian until graduating from high school in 1963. After graduation, Carolyn stayed with Grandma Heien, and worked at Newberry’s in Pierre. In 1963, she met the love of her life, Dwayne Aske; they were married on August 18, 1963, the happiest day of her life. They loved to go dancing and have fun. Dwayne taught at several different schools and Carolyn loved to help him. To this union two sons were born:  Jay Richard and Merle Allen.  After Dwayne passed in July, 1978, Carolyn and the boys moved to Presho where she substitute taught and worked at Hutch’s Cafe. Carolyn moved to Pierre in 1986 where she worked at several restaurants and motels including the Chateau Lounge, where she worked from 1988 until their closing in 2013. Upon retirement, she worked for Experience Works, working part-time at the gift shop in the Capitol building and the Cultural Heritage Center until her death. Her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, extended family and friends were the most important part of her life.
    Carolyn is survived by her mother, Lauretta of Vivian, sister, Jeanette (Bill) Marshall of Ft. Pierre; brothers, Dennis (Angela) of Presho and Leslie (Deb) of Vivian; her sons, Jay (Kay) of Jesup, Ga., and Merle (Kathy) of Aberdeen; grandchildren, Sean (Jen) Rogers of Sioux Falls, Greg Aske of Sioux Falls, and Megan Aske of Gastonia, N.C.; great grandchildren, Cadence and Owen Rogers and Parker Aske along with numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, nephews, lots of cousins, aunt, Elaine Scott; brother-in-law, Robert Aske and sister-in-law, Joanne Erickson and close friend, Skip Goodman.
    Carolyn is preceded in death by her husband, Dwayne; father Glenn, mother-in-law, Beulah Aske; father-in-law, Edwin Aske; great niece, Samantha Marshall; brother-in-law, Jim Aske, and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
    A memorial has been established.
    A prayer Service was held on  Tuesday, May 17,  at the Moose Lodge, Ft. Pierre. Services were held on Wednesday, May 18, at Vivian Lutheran Church with burial at the Murdo Cemetery.
