Beverly J. (Becker) Fox

Beverly Jean (nee Becker) Fox, San Antonio, Texas, passed away peacefully at Methodist Metropolitan Hospital late on Sept. 30, 2015, following complications from a long illness. She was surrounded by devoted family members.
Beverly was born in Philip, S.D., the eldest daughter of Herman “Ted” Becker and Velma Grace Holverson. While she grew up on a farm, her adult life would take her on many happy adventures far away from her roots.
After graduating from Philip High School, Beverly attended and graduated from St John’s School of Nursing in Huron. Soon after, she worked in Minnesota, where she met William M. Fox, Jr., who was stationed nearby. She always said they knew they were meant to be together, and they were married in 1954. The wedding was held at a church near his family’s Chicago home at Hometown, Ill.
Beverly moved to Illinois as Bill completed a tour of duty in the Philippines. During this time, she became especially close to her new family and was always grateful for them and this special time they shared. When Bill returned from overseas, they were subsequently stationed in Homestead, Fla., and then Champaign, Ill. In 1961, the military sent them to San Antonio where they settled down permanently. Bev and Bill were married for 53 years until his death on Sept. 25, 2007.
Beverly’s professional career matched well with the life of a military spouse, allowing her to live a full and happy life. She worked at various hospitals during her 44 year career as a registered nurse, most notably 32 years at Brooke Army Medical Center (BAMC). After retirement in 1996, she devoted more time to her family, church (choir, senior outings, Grace quilters), and volunteering at BAMC. Beverly was talented – along with sewing, quilt-making, oil painting, playing piano and organ, she was a truly gifted artist.
In addition to her family, she found peace and strength in her lifelong faith, and was a member of Grace Lutheran Church for 42 years.
Beverly is survived by her children, William M. (Linda) Fox, III; Paula (Thomas) Rich, Toni (David) Gaston and Gregory and Kirstin Fox. Additionally, sister Gloria Teegardin, several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and extended family.
In addition to her spouse, Beverly is predeceased by her parents, a sister, and her cherished “psychiatry dog,” Coco.
A celebration of life was held Saturday, Oct. 10, at Grace Lutheran Church. In accordance with her wishes, she will be interred at Fort Sam Houston.
