Alice Lorraine Palecek

    Alice Lorraine Palecek, age 88, of Philip, S.D., formerly of Winner, passed away Sunday, Aug. 28, 2016, at the Philip Nursing Home after battling a prolonged illness.
    Alice Lorraine Ellwanger was born Jan. 19, 1928, on a farm near Dallas to George and Margaret (Gall) Ellwanger.
    Lorraine grew up on a farm where she helped with raising her younger siblings and helped with household and farm chores. After high school, she worked at the Winner Laundry and Dry Cleaners.
    On Jan. 17, 1948, she was united in marriage to James (Jim) Palecek and to this union, five children were born.
    When her children were older she began working for the JC Penney store in Winner, where she worked for 28 years until retirement.
    Lorraine devoted herself to spending time with her family. Her hobbies included baking, cooking, canning, gardening, walking and preparing food for her family, often sending treats home with them. After her retirement, she enjoyed spending time working at the First Christian Church Rummage House in Winner, exercising with friends at the Winner Senior Center and league bowling. She was a member of the First Christian Church and the Christian Women’s Fellowship (CWF).
    Lorraine is survived by four sons, Jerry (Diane), of Gladstone, Mo., Rick (Peggy) of Philip, Monte (Maureen) of Philip, and Lance (Kristi) of Yankton; a daughter, Chandra (Jim) Day, of Winner; 13 grandchildren, Ryan Palecek and Whitney (Chase) Watson, John (Allison) Palecek, Dan (Tracy) Palecek, Anne (Alex) Chmura, Nick (Dusti) Palecek, Laura (Jeremy) Whittington, Deanna (Trevor) Krugman, Blake and Cassie Day, Alex, Makayla, and Trevan Palecek; 12 great-grandchildren; and sisters, Ruth McAllister, Doris Ellwanger, Betty Berry and Lucille Wiedeman.
    She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim, in May 2012; her parents, George and Margaret Ellwanger; brothers, Raymond, Robert and Harlan (Ruth); sisters, Sarah (Carl) Orelup and Helen (Frank) Tunks; brothers-in-law, Jim McAllister, Art Berry and Paul Wiedeman; and one great-grandson, Reid Christian Palecek.
    Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. (CT) Thursday, Sept. 1, at the Mason Funeral Home in Winner.
    Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. (CT) Friday, Sept. 2, at the First Christian Church in Winner.
    Burial will follow at the Winner City Cemetery.
