Hail storm tears through Jones County

Around nine o’clock on the morning of Monday, August 21 it seemed as if the solar eclipse had arrived early. The morning sky darkened to a night time shade of grey as a sizable severe thunderstorm made it’s way through South Dakota. Areas northwest of Draper received the most damage as six inches of hail covered the farmground. Flooded ditches resulted in waterfalls over the roadways and gusty winds left bins, powerlines, trees and structures in shambles. Several area residents reported over two inches of rain collected in Murdo. Summer went out with a bang as this storm thundered on through!
