Fall Family Carnival held in Philip

The Fall Family Carnival held at the Philip’s Fire Hall Park, Oct. 8, drew a huge crowd.

 

The event was sponsored by the Haakon County Public Library and Haakon County Extension office, with volunteer assistance from many area businesses, organizations, groups and individuals.

 

First there was the parade, which featured walkers, bikes, scooters, wagons and even a few ponies and goats. Most of the participants – from the youngest to the adults – wore costumes. Then, the tables, booths and other activities opened. There was apple bobbing, face painting, tattoo stickers, snowcones, coin find, minnow races, three-legged races, sack races, eyeball races, pumpkin painting, a duck pond, ring toss, hot dog race, stick horse races, rocket building, a petting zoo and more. Throughout the carnival, music was provided.

 

The entire afternoon and evening – the carnival and the following chili cook-off – were free to the public.

 

For weeks before the carnival, kids could earn special good deed coins for displaying good will and citizenship. The school and businesses distributed these. Each carnival activity asked for a coin. Some booths rewarded either candy or more coins.
